Pictured Rocks (Buzzz…)

The views we gorgeous and plenty, filled with turquoise water and caramel-colored sand. Buzzz. The weather was perfect, with the most perfect sprinkles greeting us when we got to our campsite near the beach on our second night. Buzzz. We even got to see a marten in the woods! It felt great to be hiking…if only we could escape the relentless mosquitoes that seemed to love our blood so much! Buzzz.

I always joke with Eric that I must taste like chocolate because, between the two of us, the mosquitoes always seem to prefer me but this time around they did not discriminate. They buzzed around us and chased us from start to finish leaving us prisoners in our tent at camp! But we had a great time and enjoyed some amazing scenery and even an abbreviated day at the beach – before we decided to hightail it outta there to escape those bloodsuckers once and for all!

I had forgotten how much I love backpacking but this jaunt to Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore was a great reminder. Now I can’t wait for another trip! Though I would really love for someone to tell me – why is it that we need mosquitoes? Do they really help make this world go ’round?

So, even though the colors were amazing, something about these images just needed to be black and white. Is it possible that the colors were too amazing? :D
