My utter fascination with Pandora, the personalized internet radio made just for me, heightened the moment I heard Brett Dennen’s song “By and By” for the first time. After a couple of days, I heard another few of his songs and I liked them all. I loved the lyrics! I loved the funny little things he did in every song. I sought more songs out on iTunes to decide whether I loved his music as much as I thought I did. And I did! I bought all three albums and have been listening to them nonstop on my way to and from work, while I work at home, and anytime I can sneak in between. I’m what you might call…addicted. So when I heard he was touring nearby, I jumped at the opportunity.
Last weekend, Eric and I braved the snow and jackknifed semis and headed to Cleveland for the concert and to visit our friends, Mike and Katie (the same Mike that made the fabulous marshmallow toasting sticks). The concert was at Beachland Ballroom which was nice and small and made for some great photo opportunities. The music was great and, like I told a friend of mine, made me want to dress in yellow and draw smiley faces all day! The crowd favorite, which made me feel the most yellow, was definitely “Blessed”. Clapping and hoots erupted as soon as the tune was recognizable and it didn’t take long for the crowd to break into a chant of the chorus, “blessed is this life and I’m gonna celebrate being alive”. Who can argue with a feel good message like that?
