For anyone new to this little blog of mine, let me tell you about a couple of my very favorite things to photograph.
First of all, joyful people. I love watching through my viewfinder the subtle interactions and exchanges between a bride and groom or a groom and his dad as they make their way through such an important day. The look in the groom’s eye as he watches his bride walk down the aisle. The happiness on the faces of guests who seem to have all added something special to the day. Or the roaring laughter during the father of the bride’s toast. I especially love when I can capture those pieces of the day for a couple to relive for decades.
I also love – so much – capturing the tiny details that a couple has spent so much time crafting as they plan a wedding day that reflects who they are together. From beautiful white peonies included in the bridal bouquet to the tiny little green ribbons tied around a set of sparklers to celebrate at the end of the night. A ring passed down from a cherished grandparent to the bottles filled with beer the couple brewed themselves just for the occasion.
These are some of my favorite things. So, when I walked away from Becky and Derek’s wedding reception after the sparklers had all burned out, I couldn’t help but feel so lucky to have been there to capture their day. Because, from the moment Becky pulled out her stunning pearl earrings while she was getting ready to the tears she and Derek shared during their first look all the way to the excited waves they flashed as they drove off in their getaway car, their day was perfect. And full of so many of my favorite things.

Derek and Becky: Bah! I feel a little speechless. It has been SO wonderful working with you guys from the moment you shared some of the things that were inspiring your day all the way to today when I am so excited to share this preview with you. It really was a genuine honor for me to witness your wedding day behind my camera and capture it for you both to remember for the rest of your days! I hope your lives together are filled with countless more beautiful details and hundreds more trips to Napa! All my very best wishes,
